Same joke. Twice the money.
I assumed that was a listing error. It isn’t. It’s how the whole category works.

Couples costumes get priced as one unit, which is a neat trick — $99.99 doesn’t land the same way when it’s dressing two people. It feels like a set. Sets feel like value.

Walmart does show the per-person price on a few listings — the Oreo set has $29.97/ea printed right there. The fire hydrant set says “$1.00/ea” underneath $99.99, which tells you how much attention anyone’s paying to that field.
💡 Hack: Halve both prices before you compare two couples costumes. Obvious. Nobody does it. That’s why the category gets away with $99.99.
The House Brand Is Running the Same Joke for Half
Way to Celebrate is Walmart’s own label, and it has quietly copied the entire branded novelty lineup at roughly half price. Tequila and Lime, two pieces, $30.97, sizes S through XL. Salt and Lime, $30.97, 4.2 stars. Popcorn and Butter, three pieces, $30.97, 4.4 stars.
Rasta Imposta’s version of that first one is $64.88, comes in one size, and has three stars from two reviews. Thirty-four extra dollars for a brand name on a bag you’ll throw out on November 1st.
It gets better if you stop shopping the couples category altogether.
Nurse is $9.97. Doctor Scrubs is $9.97. Both rate 4.8 stars. That’s a couples costume for $19.94 — under a tenner each, and better reviewed than anything sold as a pair. The same move builds most of the classics: Greek God and Greek Goddess at $27.97 apiece, Morticia and Gomez from the Wednesday line at $27.97, Lederhosen and Oktober Dress for $58.94 the pair.
None of them are labelled couples costumes. That’s the only reason they’re cheap. The word “couples” in a product title is worth about thirty dollars to whoever’s writing it.
💡 Hack: Search the singles listings. The couples filter hides every cheap pairing you could assemble yourself in four minutes.
What I’d Buy
Nurse and Doctor Scrubs, $19.94 for the two. Unoriginal, well-reviewed, in stock in real sizes, and $87 cheaper than the fire hydrant. If you’re not precious about it, stop here.
If you want the food-and-drink gag, the Way to Celebrate Tequila and Lime at $30.97 does the same thing as the $64.88 one and actually comes in your size.
Bacon and Egg at $35.89 is the only branded set I’d defend. Twenty-five reviews, 4.3 stars — which sounds like nothing until you see what everything else in this category is running on. Battery Jumper Cables at $40.49 rates higher, 4.8, but on six reviews.
And if you want the licensed Wednesday look, Rubies makes the official one and it’s only sold as singles. Morticia and Gomez, $27.97 each.

One Size Fits Most Is Not a Feature
Almost every expensive set here is Adult One Size. The cheap house-brand ones come in S through XL.
A one-size costume that doesn’t fit is a return, and a return in late October means you go to the party in whatever’s in your closet. The refund turns up eventually. The Halloween doesn’t.
It shows in the ratings, too. Hot Dog Bun: 2.8 stars. ATM Cash Machine & $100 Bill: one star. Tequila Bottle & Lime: three. Not all of that is workmanship.
